Bleaklow Industries own both the land and mineral rights in the area known as Beacon Rod, which has not yet seen any quarrying activity.
Although Backdale Quarry has been the primary excavation site under the 1952 Minerals Permission, it has been estimated that only 10% of its capacity remains and Bleaklow were expected to target either Wager's Flat or Beacon Rod once Backdale is exhausted.
However, a stop notice served on Bleaklow in April 2006 prompted them to transfer excavations prematurely to Wager's Flat. This means that Beacon Rod should be safe for a little while longer but it is now crucial that we prevent any action here before it starts, and preserve its unspoiled condition.
